Lebanon is one of the few centers in the Middle East equipped for skiing. Although the country is primarily a summer destination, winter tourism is witnessing a remarkable increase, due to the mountain's proximity to the coast, which allows the visitor to ski and return to Beirut or any other coastal city within an hour or two only. The ski season starts in December. Major resorts provide their customers with accommodation in winter hotels and chalets, in addition to many facilities, including ski equipment. Winter sports in Lebanon include: alpine skiing, long running, in addition to parachuting, driving snowmobiles, and exploring forests and mountains.
